Artists North
Evidencing Arts Project Management, Fundraising for the Arts and,
Marketing and Digital Representation
In 2012 I undertook an ambitious project; Artists North. The initial cash investment from ACE was £30K with further investments being made later in the process. The work done under the banner Artists North took place over four years and was a community-based activity creating opportunities for all ages, levels and art forms in the form of performances, residencies, creative networking events and workshops etc.
Management of this project included;
-
Securing £30'000 cash investment from ACE plus £20k from other sources; support in
kind, cash investments and ticket sales.
-
Choreography of a new dance work; Beyond the Parasol.
-
Commissioning new dance from local artists.
-
Curating a evening of work for public viewing.
-
Facilitation of rehearsals (time planning, venue management)
-
Coordination of dance platform featuring five separate dance groups/companies and
totaling more than 40 performers from around the North of England.
-
Commissioning and overseeing the development of a new artists social media
website (no longer active but imaging can be seen here )
-
Fundraising, organisation and running of a Creative Networking Event, Mandala a
one day activity of cross-arts for 35 artists to share skills and ideas, the 12 hour day culminated in a live performance for a paying audience. Performance excerpts can be seen here.
-
Progressing my partnership with magpie who created the digital media aspects.
-
Fundraising, organisation and running of professional development residency GRIT for 20 artists.

Several projects from the Artists North initiative exhibited DIY tendencies and therefore required flexibility, resilience and resourcefulness in terms planning strategies. In particularly the work I have carried out with Carrianne Vivianette (an ongoing partnership) thrives on alternative and non-conventional theatre space and therefore works outside the realm of public funding. Our work is documented primarily within my CV, with minimal digital evidence being available, this simply reflects the restrictions placed on documentation due to limited resources and the ephemeral nature of the work.
