A lecturer in technique and performance practice

Evidencing Dance Techniques, Professional Practice

I have been a teacher since 2002. My role has progressed with my experience as a performing artist. My early teaching involved leading workshops for community groups such as the Centre of Advance Training (CAT) and as my experience grew I started to teach more experienced practitioners and eventually started teaching professional classes within companies such as Phoenix Dance Theatre, Balbir Singh Dance company and ProDance Leeds. In 2014 I joined the faculty at Leeds Becket University and then move to NSCD in 2016 to take up the position of Lecturer in Technique and Performance Practice.

Whilst at NSCD I started a reflective inquiry into my practice in order to become a fellow of the higher education academy (FHEA), this teaching credit is still in process however my statement can be read

 here.

Again, my commitment to practices such as the Graham Technique became very relevant to my teaching role and as mentioned earlier I have since specialised in several other techniques to support my role as a teacher. In addition to that which has already been discussed I felt a need to do more professional development in understanding the body. Between 2014 and 2016 I became a certified stretch instructor (EFCS) and obtained a level 3 certificate in sports massage in order to deepen my understanding of anatomy and physiology.
